stressed out stilllllllllll

well after a horrible couple of days things are...getting more hectic? not like it's getting easier...i think maybe you just get used to chaos and having people tell you they will meet you at certain times and ending up going by yourself...i dunno...

i need a cell phone...i think that is the semi-project for the day but i'm scared that i will get screwed if i go by myself...but probably if i went with someone else i'd just get us both screwed...hmm and it'd be cool if i could use it in russia too with a different sim card or whatever...

hmmm...

so i'm in my room...i don't remember what i've written so far...Emanuel, Emily, and I finagled a deal where i get his studio and some of his financial aid and he and Emily split the double so that's going well i think...Emily and I go figure out paperwork today at three altho how much do you want to bet that she will forget or not show up?

The first night (errr i think the first night) there was a party where we all salsa danced in this one girl's room...they did shots and stuff but i didn't really feel like it...man tho Emanuel can dance like a crazy o_o

my old room had a window that looked out over the soccer fields so that was cool cuz there were always people out there but now i just look at other people's windows...

oh so the SECOND night or something like that after Chris and I had a maniac grocery/necessity shopping day he cooked the BEST food i've had since i've gotten here o_o he cooked chicken and rice and beans with spanish seasoning and vegies and all sorts of crazy...was suuuuper good...i wish i could do that

(man these kids swear a lot...i'm in a net café across the street from Paris 3...it's pretty cool...)

i had a really unhealthy lunch today...yick...eggs and fruit for dinner...i need some bread too...regular bread...not croissants or weird prepackaged toast (yes...)

uhm...i study a lot...and i need more books to read...some of the MICEFA kids started a book club so I'm going to join i think...i wonder where they get their books...i can't really afford to buy stuff all the time...which reminds me i should be looking for a babysitting job V_V hmmm...i'm reading the history of the color blue in French...did i mention i bought that? it's hard to remember what happened when i can't update everyday...anyhow it's pretty interesting and i'm learning words like teinture and étoffe, loin s'en faut means far from it! so that's interesting...

oh and i tested into the advanced class...i mean there were only two so it wasn't a big deal and actually lots of my better friends are in the lower class but oh well...what's nice is that our tour of this area isn't until tomorrow so i can spend some time sitting here before i go shopping

i need an adaptor for my gameboy and a "dictophone" to record lectures and i'm tempted to buy some speakers for my cd player so i can pump my music...much as i love TSF (89.9 "quatre-vingt neuf neuf") the jazz station, it'd be cool to listen to some of my stuff...they do play good music on TSF tho...they had Kurt Elling on the other night i almost died...it is pretty much all american tho heh x_x but so it goes...most of the rock and stuff is american too so it really doesn't matter what you're listening to

hmmm maybe you can tell i'm still sorta stressed out

i also have no patience anymore

like i said no waiting

some people said they would go for money and meet me back and i was done eating and they still weren't there so i figured they went somewhere else and left...i dunno maybe that was a bad idea but i can't just sit around wasting time...i have a lot of crud to get done

i think my academic interview is thursday at 5:30 but i forgot...i have to be at MICEFA tomorrow morning anyhow so i can just ask then

tonite one of the ladys from MICEFA is having us all over for wine and cheese...neither of which i really like...but i figure i'll go anyhow

wine is cheap here...

the bananas are kinda funky tho ;p

day from hell

sooooooo we were late to the test today but they didn't care

we left with like forty minutes but i guess it's just impossible to get anywhere ontime in paris

anyhow they didn't care so we took it and it went ok for me i guess

everyone says that...i wonder how we all did in reality

so then after that we went back to everyone's favorite corner bakery for lunch

they have the best sandwiches

sooooo yeah the australian open was on so chris watched that and i studied russian and some other people came over

blah blah then we left but got hella lost for like three hours

really lost

the kind of lost that can only happen in europe where there are sixteen roads at the intersection and you can't read the map because you've become stupid overnight

we were lost for actually three hours

so we missed our first two appts and were way late getting back to micefa where we luckily found housing anyhow

if anyone we blew off is reading this (which they aren't) i feel bad

so after that we dragged ourselves back to the hotel and we might go see emanuel and emily who oddly enough is going to be my new roommate

i hope we get a loft

and i hope we can find a way to move one of the beds downstairs

cuz it really doesn't make sense to have all that space does it and not use it?

it's too bad there's no couch

: /

emanuel and emily eat too late for us so we will just go hang out with them maybe

altho we had chinese food and it was good but i have this feeling that it will make me sick

i had to send it back to the microwave again

that will be the final straw because o i had been searching all day for this drink called Cacolac

it's kinda like chocolate milk but probably worse for you x_x

anyhow i finally found it at the grocery store and i had to buy eight cuz they didn't have singles but it wasn't fridgerated and i'll drink it eventually but then we got back and realized that they have real bottle tops and not twist-offs

how lame x_x

i kinda just want to go back to the hotel and chill out

tomorrow i have my oral interview (did i say that already?) and have to be at MICEFA at 9:15 am...joy -_-

i would rather be asleep the way things are going

then i guess i can move in

gotta collect the cash and move all my crud

i wonder how much i will really like this place

it's nice but it really is more like a dorm than a studio...i mean at least in east tower at home josh had his own room -_-

whatever i don't want to worry about it

i'm so sick of worrying about everything x_x

we will probably leave soon and go...where...to call emanuel...

maybe i will tell him we will just stay here

and see them tomorrow since Emily and i will be living together as of then LOL

they eat so late

i really really don't like eating late

8:30 dinner is just ridiculous

how do you digest that if you want to get a good night's sleep?

i refuse lol

anyhow...yeah we'll do that and since we apparently can't have any cacolac i'll probably find something tasty at the bakery

you know

even tho we seem to get good deals on food we've been spending a ton

i want to go study and play video games

hopefully tomorrow will be better and we can have dinner at a compromisable time...maybe x_x

i like oranges

arrrrgh x_x

well the housing may have fallen through

cuz i have to wait up for someone else to room there cuz apparently otherwise i have to pay the whole 600 euros on my own which is dumb and not really feasible

suppOSedly i will have an answer for tomorrow but there's been an awful lot of screwing over going on and an awful lot of "well i'll think about it/i don't know" going on which is obnoxious as heck

for example: my friend chris was going to get in the residence with dan and then dan suddenly out of nowhere decided to look for apts today...for NO reasn whatever lol it was plain sillah

to counter chris and i went hardcore apt shopping and did a really good job we saw one tonite and have three places lined up to see for tomorrow lol

so either i will live in the residences and so will chris and dan (and tomorrow afternoon is a huge waste of time cuz it will be too hard to cancel all the appts)

or i will live with chris somewhere (and dan will be sad)

or chris and dan will live in the residence (and i will bed sad)

so it goes...there is no win-win only win-cry

i've been having a lot of fun with chris tho...he just got here yesterday and him, emanuel (who lives in the residence) and another Emily (his friend) and i all went out for dinner (somewhat splurgy o_o) and had a total blast...we all laugh a lot. me and chris esp...we sat in my hotel room calling to make apt appts all afternoon and just laughed so hard lol cuz sometimes he wouldn't understand them and i would have to get on the phone and sometimes we were just so mad at the whole situation that we would just crack up and fall over

it's hard for foreign people to get those little words down

crack UP fall OVER break UP break DOWN pick UP pick AT pick OUT put DOWN put UP

stuff like that

in france you put money ON a bank account

not in

at least if i remember correctly

which i hope i do cuz OUR TEST IS TOMORROW

at nine

i told chris i would bang on his hostel door cuz he has no alarm

so i have to be up early >_< lol

which is ok

i should have studied more french

>_<

i've studied a little bit of russian and japanese almost everyday but no french really except watching...

oh i didn't talk about that did i

i went and saw a movie by myself near the arc du triomphe the other day (is that even how you spell it?)

it was uhm...Howl's Moving Castle? Is that the English title? I watched it in Japanese with French subs and understood more than I thought I would. It was good. I should go see something in French straight up and see how I fare lol

hmmmmm

what else

haven't seen sergey lately

he has a friend in from russia

i'm waiting until i get a house to get a cell phone because there are at least two people i know of who say theres a way to get a plan without getting roped into it

which i dunno if i believe anyhow

it's so expensive

i dunno what is the best way to do it

i guess i could get prepaid cards like everyone else

i thought i read that you could get like six hours for 45 euros or something...

that's sooooo expensive

jeez >_<

it's cheaper on a plan but i dunno

i'm only here for five months

it's just nice to be able to give people a phone number

cuz i can't leave anyone i call for babysitting jobs or apts a message cuz i don't have a way for them to get back to me

i like being accessible

>_<

sooooo here we eat a lot of sandwiches cuz the are fairly cheap

there is a surprising amount of cheese on all sorts of things

like i ordered what i thought would be sorta like a briochetta or however you spell that...how DO you spell that...is it just brochetta? or something...i dunno...but it turned out to be like a pie made almost exclusively out of mozzarella cheese...and today i had this sandwhich that was really good but also had a bunch of mozzarella cheese and then for dinner chris and i did crepes (i dunno how to type accents on this laptop so oooohhhhhhhh well) cuz he didn't even know what they were lol and mine was ok but not that great...mostly i think it's cuz i was looking forward to having egg in mine but he thought i said euh (uhm) and not oeuf....

so i only got ham

and you guessed it

CHEESE

i can't take it lol

it doens't feel healthy to eat melted cheese all the time

which is funny

cuz it really is the melted part

as long as it's normal like...in a baguette sandwhich then it's fine

so there are baguette ones and paninis which they toast and are good

and are cheaper

and you can find les sandwiches grecs all over the place which are with like lamb meat or whatever kinda like a euro...very tasty and kinda cheap there was a good place next to the hotel did i already talk about that??

i don't remember

maybe we will go to some sites tomorrow in between apt viewings

i wonder what will happen with the residence

on one hand i really want to be there cuz it's cheap

on the other hand the apts are more centrally (not REALLY centrally but moreso) located and more exciting in some way...

the one we saw today is 900 euros but split in half that's 450 which is probably...nearly 600 dollars? i have no idea what the exchange is >_< that's so sad lol anyhow...so but that includes all utilites. there are LOTS of stairs...no lift...it must be on like the 6th floor at least lol but i like stairs cuz its a good workout...and it was nice and blue and there was a door between the two rooms so that was cool ALSO it came with TONS of dishes and a dishwasher, oven, stove...there was one bed in the bedroom and then a couch in the other room which looked comfy enough...we could've always switched off...lots of closet space and a table/counter sort of deal with two chairs and a desk so we could easy fit in there...but it is kinda expensive esp when you think of the sweet deal we had going at the residence....which...was pretty much almost what i was paying in mke (around 400 dollars)

hoooo hummmmm

i should study and go to bed lol

i should also do push-ups!!!!

does walking make up for eating lots of cheese? i dunno

i guess the deal is that all french food is really bad for you but you walk so much that you're fine? i don't believe that for one minute

i bought little oranges today

last night i was dumb and didn't want to wait until the next day to go to the supermarket and so purchased some not so great bananas at a different store

blah

they are kinda bruised and parts are quite mushy

i really like fruit o_O

i became a fruit banshee in england and now i can't stoppppp

oh that is probably THE number one word to learn

metro stop

i think every one in the program is older than me

i can't find anyone else who is 19 or younger

not like it matters

lol

yeah

well i should give this girl's comp back >_<

i really wish i had one : /

ah well :D

france is cool

chris made a good point...that it seems like a smallish village sort of place even tho you're in a big city...like the streets are small or something maybe that's why lol

whooo

well i have to go lol

that's all.........

Monday, January 24, 2005

long time no see

aiiie here i am on a crazy french keyboard (only different enough to mess you up a bit...obnoxious at best infuriating at worse)

soooooooooo what...well my flight to paris was good

on the way there was a flipped truck so we got stuck in traffic

also steve predicted outkast on the radio which was really bizarre

i had that one song in my head so he was like let's turn on the radio and there it was

i think "was" is the worst word to type on this keyboard

lol

i had to sit at the airport for a pretty long time and they didn't let me check in until a few hours after i got there so i ordered hot chocolate and sat at this italian cafe where there was a lady who sounded like mary poppins "service please!!!" it was a busy place

my airport connection van was late but it was cool cuz there was a japanese couple who got on with a really cute kid so i busted out some nihongo ;D

just a bit tho

then after i got to my hotel i met up with sergey who is SUPER awesome. i really like hanging out with him

wow notice the lack of periods. they are annoying to type. here they are where the comma would be but you also have to press shift as well

x_x that face is i guess the replacement for the carroty type face cuz i can't figure out how to type it ;_;

you have to type shift to get numbers too o_o

anyhow so yeah sergey and i had dinner and studied

it's very nice to study; i do it a lot

today in fact i bought a french book to help me with my russian verbs...i should've gotten one before i left but i didn't and this one was pretty cheap anyhow

the hotel is nice but the guy at the desk or one of them rather, kind of hates us or at least he's very frustrated. some people are loud and come in late but i think his biggest problem is just the number of times we go in and out

oh i did my laundry

it was hella expensive

at my NEW HOUSING THAT I MOVE INTO ON FRIDAY there is laundry onsite that is a bit cheaper

that is good

it was complicated the first time but once you get used to how it works it's easy and boring cuz you have to sit there of course...altho lots of people just leave

so my housing is in a complex of student studios on the northern outskirts (they call it the ghetto but only cuz it's not as exciting as the rest of paris) there was this guy at the housing meeting today who talked about it and he totally convinced me. it's gonna be supah! ;D

it's actually right next to one of the branches of the sorbonne ( i hope i test in)

wow so i'm using up all my time o_o

i bought 3 hours for five euros on a pass

well technically me and my current roommate bought 6 hours together for 10

so it goes

paris is cool

i dunno what to really say

i went to one not-that-thrilling bar

i haven't really seen too many sites or anything yet

i figure i don't have to cram it all into my first week here so it's all good

just kinda chillin'

i want to see if i can find a place to see the new hayao miyazaki movie tonite

altho i will go tomorrow if i have to take the metro cuz i'm kinda sick of the trains for today

which could change if for instance sergey called and wanted to meet up somewhere

but he would probably just come over here anyhow to study so even then...

i'm sure i forgot a ton of stuff

but you know there will be more to come so ça va

a sample of the newest word acquisitions:

le hublot - washing machine window

roter - to burp

prévisible - predictable

un colocataire - roommate (colocatrice for les filles)

yup yup some more useful than others...that's how it goes

i bought a history of the color blue (it taught me the word juggle "jongler")

everything is so educational!!! ;D

hahaha i feel like golden boy (but not really hehehe)

that is all for now...i hope my new colocataire/trice has a computer so we can split net charges and have it in our place :D

crubazuby day

so today was my last day in northampton. i got up at about 10:30 and watched City of God while i had breakfast (banana!!!!! RAR) lol yeah i ate all the rest of the bananas today. i'll have to get some when i get to paris cuz i'm a fiend now. anyhow so i watched the movie and obsessed about paperwork and wrote some e-mails...an essay and i dunno. i read today and organized my stuff. not much happened really. steve was at work again ne. lunch was a yummy chicken sandwich so that was cool...

then things got pretty crazy cuz steve got home and we had had this conversation about how he wanted to buy me a gameboy and i was like, "you don't have to do that" and he was telling me all about how inherited his penchant from spending money from his dad and stuff and i was like, "it's really ok" and he said he felt bad cuz he was going to have to drop me off six hours early for my flight and i told him i didn't really mind cuz airports are pretty cool places and i have cds and books to read and things to study and whatnot. i really thought i had him convinced but he still went out and bought me a gameboy. (thanks ^_^) so that was a surprise. i now have video games as well as cds and books and studying.

then we decided we were starving and so procured fish 'n chips which was super exciting and totally foiled the eating healthy plan. and he also had a box of tasty chocolate things. it was actually kinda like the choclate that xav bought for me a while back...same box...only instead of american candy it had english candy...way crazy

and so then i found out something interesting. i had always marveled at the really cute milky way bar wrappers they have...totally different from ours...and then i learned that milky ways aren't the same here...they are sorta like vanilla musketeers bars...which...yeah they're hella tasty. so then they do actually have milky ways but they're mars bars...which...don't we have mars bars in america? i dunno lol...

we played burnout3 and i died a lot >_<

then it was pretty much time for bed...which it still is LOL

cuz we have to be up uber early tomorrow morning :D

yeah...i'm gonna get about 5 hours of sleep if i start in like 10 minutes...which...probably won't happen XD LOL

i believe that is the news...there is probably something i forgot...OH YEAH the evil laundromat...it closed at 5:30 pm so i couldn't get ANYTHING washed...so i have like...A pair of underwear and a couple shirts left lol...thankfully pants are rewearable . hopefully i will be able to accomplish washing things on friday :D in paris :D yay! paris!

remarkably i did manage to pack up my suitcase...my carry-on nearly became an issue but i stuck my japanese and russian dictionaries in one of my checked bags for more space.

i learned how to say bow-tie in french today

un noeud papillon :D

(butterfly knot)

it only stuck because for some reason steve has one...but not to tie...just to like...have...and not tie...LOL

ah it's so crazy that i'm leaving

it's weird...i guess on some level i realize that this isn't how my life is...i don't actually live at steve's house and OH i know what else we did today

we had turkish delight...REAL turkish delight FROM TURKEY lol

it was a truly cultural experience...or something lol

and VERY tasty...and happy as well...

it made me think of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe...

(I seriously doubt that I would betray my SIBLINGS for the stuff...but it was good...)

so what was i saying? oh i was rambling...yeah i dunno...phase ii beginning soon...

sooner i go to bed the sooner i wake up ne?

(i can't wait to take a shower!!! :D)

Did I talk about Lucozade already? Is that how one spells it?

I don't think I did...it's this drink that isn't really like Gatorade. I guess some people like it. Basically it tastes like fizzy unjell-ofied jell-o. Bleck >_< lol ;p

So yesterday was London and I didn't update yet!!! Also I think last time I wrote I forgot to change the time...altho I may not have...I dunno...timezones are fun...

So we woke up and went on a train which was pretty nice. On the way there I looked out the window which was unexciting...

Once we were in London we walked the ENTIRE day lol no buses, taxis, subways, or anything...we walked a LOT. I was wearing my flares and it was soggy out so I ended up soaking wet halfway of my calves. >_< lol

Anyhow first we went to the world's longest sushi bar for lunch. It took us a bit to find but man it was soooooo hardcore!!!! o_O www.yosushi.com It's the kind with a conveyor belt and little different colored dishes going around. So you just kinda grab what you want and the prices are colorcoded. I also got this uber tasty chicken o_o Steve had fruit so I mooched off some of his pineapple. On a whole it was a super awesome lunch (altho my second sushi choice could've been better...it LOOKED nice but it tasted REALLY bitter lol)

Then we went to see Dali Universe which costed money to get in but was pretty cool. Lots of etchings and sculpture and paintings and whatnot. We spent a while in there wandering around. There was a lot to see. They had lots of funny quotes on the walls that I can't remember anymore... : / lol (At this point Steve would say: "Good story...really...quotes you can't remember. That's fantastic! ;p")

After that I had a banana which was well chosen and delicious. I'm really into bananas lately. Bananas and oranges.

So then we trekked to the Imperial War Museum which was really cool. They had lots of tanks and subs and things...and a really neat exhibit on D-Day. (Did you know that the D in D-Day just stands for Day? I dunno what I thought it stood for but I don't remember learning that...They used D-Day H-Hour for unspecified or secret times...) There were lots of personal items like letters and books so that was cool. We were on the third floor looking at the Holocaust exhibit when it was time to close so we didn't get to see all of it, but it was really well put together. There were a lot of really interesting artifacts there too like uniforms and books and shoes...it was really sad... : /

The plan for dinner was to find this vegetarian restaurant but we walked forEVER and weren't even back to the train station yet and were starving so we went to this place called Chopstix instead. I had fried rice and a Fanta, which was pretty decent. In fact there were left overs so I had them for breakfast this morning with an orange!! YUM :D

What else...so yeah...I think even just walking around London is pretty cool. I'm glad we didn't take the subways cuz it would've been faster but probably also a lot more confusing and we wouldn't have seen as much. I guess the only other thing I can think of was they had a 3 for 2 Haruki Murakami sale going at uhm...this one bookstore where we snuck peeks at maps (XD) so Steve grabbed some and said I could have the free one. I convinced him that Murakami is worthwhile! Yay! (He roxxorz...for anyone who doesn't know...) Ah ha also since we bought stuff we got this free sample of this book by this guy who was trying to read the entire encyclopedia Brittanica (o_O) i dunno if he made it cuz the sample only covers through C LOL but it was pretty funny :D That's what I did on the trainride home. (Ah it was called The Know-It-All written by A.J. Jacobs huzzah!) Uh huh...and then what...

I dunno. I don't remember what we did last night. I remember obsessing over paperwork...and that's it lol.

When I got up this morning Steve had already left for work so what did I do...I had leftover rice like I said and an orange while watching Spiderman 2 (FINALLY) which was really good, as expected. Then I got ambitious and hiked allllll the way into town by myself. Mostly it was just long lol. It's not tooooo much fun walking by yourself like that, but I went all the way in and got a pasty at Gregg's and some cookies at this shop in the mall that started with an M....and kinda wandered around a bit. Actually I was looking for somewhere to chill out and study but I didn't have much luck in that department. I decided I didn't really feel like running around tomorrow so I decided to go grocery shopping. I bought some chicken or something to make a sandwich with tomorrow and a bunch of bananas that looked yellow enough (everything was green V_V) annnnnnnnd a couple little exercise books to do Russian and Japanese studying in.

Which brings us to our current dilemma of having not studied ESP today when I had semi PLANNED to study...but it's ok I still have time and since I don't really want to go anywhere tomorrow (except the laundromat cuz steve doesn't have a dryer and i have to have dry things to pack in my suitcase).

Ah ha so on the way home I ate a banana and then I got here and took a bath. So now I'm finally updating my blog...whoooooo lol. Tonite I'm not sure what we're doing...but tomorrow we're gonna have a laundromat party. I decided it will be fun cuz we'll get take out fish 'n chips or something and bring a pack of cards and have a party...(or maybe not lol i dunno)

Loo loo loo.

I guess that's all. o_O Steve just got home (!) Maybe we'll have toast or something...

Sunday, January 16, 2005

slow day

to sum it up...we played video games and had food lol tomorrow is london tho and there are sooooo many cool things to do that it will make up for all the closed things we have encountered thus far

plan for the rest of the evening includes push-ups and a bath...and possibly some *gasp* light studying...

or more correctly some flipping through of textbooks

or maybe i'll just read a chapter of my book

orrrrr whatever

never can tell o_O

the cool thing is that instead of music today i can listen to ep 3 of the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy while i do the bath thing

the bath thing...it is nearly at it's end...that's a nice thought ^_^ *cheer*

annnnyhow not much to report...we went to the grocery store? was that exciting?

tomorrow is ALSO the day we call up the girl's school (i hope i get in)

la la la...

no news is good news? >_<

bad luck

I realized I forgot to relate the story of my poor unhappy burned foot. Cuz see the taps in the bathroom are cold on the left and hot on the right and cold is ice and hot is hell so i stretched my feet out and nearly melted my right foot off the other day. >_<

I guess I remembered that cuz everything has been going SO INCREDIBLY WELL *cough*

what with closed castles and burned feet, the only other thing to add to the pile now is managing to miss lunch with my relatives due to who knows what o_O we tried hard we really did and cambridge is a bit maze-y altho...an interesting place. after putting forth a valiant effort to locate people we gave up and got lunch and shopped. steve picked me up the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy radio cds which was hardcore so we listened to some of that on the way home. it's crazy :D

we decided to be lazy and order yummy pizza for dinner annnnnd we watched Volcano High which was this fairly mental korean movie about high school kids with super powers. :D lol it was silly and then we have just gotten our party k-oed by undine so we decided to take a break from Tales.

so now i'm the only one up and i'm writing e-mails and chatting and generally just staying up late for no reason :D granted, today isn't likely to be a very thrilling day. we're kinda uninspired by our recent ventures to really go anywhere and it's not like too many places are likely to be open on a sunday anyhow...iiiiiii dunno

monday is london! and we have to phone a lady at this all girl's school to see if they'll let me shadow either tuesday or wednesday. cuz steve is going back to work tuesday so i'll just get to bum around the house. i suppose i could go feed ducks or shop or do whatever i want really. i can do whatever lol. and then thursday i'm back to france where i already have plans!! as soon as i'm settled at the hotel i get to go meet up with a russian exchange student for dinner. we're gonna study together i'm super psyched :D

anyhow i guess that's it for the moment...hope these next few days aren't so stressful as the past few lol

change of plans

well instead of going to london we went to...uhm where did we go?

Burton...UPON Trent...

(apparently it's complicated)

"some people call it Burton ON Trent but they're WRONG"

ok o_o

i dunno i didn't really feel like getting up or something...i didn't...so that's the point i guess lol

i had a nice lie in i guess

then we kinda wondered what to do

and then steve decided we would go see what his brother was doing

so i got to meet his parents who were very nice

and his two cats

and his brother seemed pretty cool

we pub hopped for a while and then got very hungry

and left for curry

it was pretty yummy :D i love rice :D

it was another day in the car

we listened to a lot of music @_@

uhmmmmmm and we're trying to get me a student to shadow at a high school for a day next week cuz that would be interesting...

i think i'm having lunch with relatives tomorrow...but i'm not sure yet o_O

blah blah oh and london is moved to monday

i guess that's all...

i dunno...gonna stay up late and play video games i think :D

road trip

well instead of lincoln we went to shropshire

which is a place i heard about on the radio with xav once a while ago

this was a bit of a drive @_@ which wasn't really that bad but the problem was that the first castle we went to was a) not that thrilling and b) closed...however the town was rather nice and in england there are lots of sheep...in wisconsin you drive and see cows but in england you drive and see sheep...so that was in shrewsbury

then we went to ludlow but the problem remained...i came to the country and they decided to close...EVERYTHING lol apparently in january the castle isn't open on weekdays but we did walk around the outside which was nice. i took some pictures...etc yeah the museum wasn't open either...

ludlow was really cool tho there was a really groovy local market with lots of yummy food...i had a pear and a steak pie...it was a super hardcore lunch...it was like a fantasy novel lunch :D

oh dude the other thing we did in shrewsbury was buy japanese candy LOL

uhm...

and then what

i dunno

seriously i think steve said we logged like 300 miles on his car today...we just drove like maniacs all over (and listened to about a thousand cds)...but there were sheep and some nice hills :D

*sigh*

so let's see when we got home we watched a bit about the jerry springer thing it wasn't that thrilling...but they did talk about this play that got cancelled cuz of a religion vs. art conflict and kinda tied it together and raised big philosophical questions and stuff lol (it's called "the culture show"...verrrrry creative titling)

then we played burnout...

and then we played like three hours of tales of symphonia *_*

lol

it took us like ten years to find out how to get to the stupid island LOL

anyhow...

i think it's sufficiently late enough for bed lol so that's probably what i'll get up to in a bit

i forgot to tell you about this

you know here the steering wheel is on the right side and the passenger is seated on the left...and i was trying to remember or imagine or think about the other way...the way it is in the states and most other places where the steering wheel is on the left and it was like a trap...it was sort of like being really depressed...like the walls suddenly snuck up on your train of thought while it was meandering and suddenly it's like panicking and pounding but it can't get anywhere and you try to stop thinking but you can't and then you realize you can...

so you do

today

well i slept in probably cuz i didn't really want to get up. i still cough. then i took a bath for a while and then i ate an orange and some toast. toast has become the staple food. no wait...i didn't have toast this morning...just an orange. then i introduced steve to the magic that is a walkman car adaptor thing...so he can listen to cds in his little green "backwards" car, which is he is thrilled about.

dvds are really expensive in england. like...40 bux

but what so we went to town in the car and parked in a lot where we had to give a neon-vested lady a ticket or get one from her or something. i wasn't really paying attn. no we got one from her cuz it was a sticker that we put on the windshield

anyhow...actually there was a cool thing about the adaptor...it's cuz we bought it at this crazy store...it's like this big room and they have thick laminated catelogues on counters in the middle and only like a couple (well it seemed like a couple cuz the room was so big and still airy) things on display so that was step one...you look in the catelogue and then punch your number into a little machine that tells whether the thing is in stock or not (somewhere...i dunno where they kept all of it) then you go order it and pay for it in a line.

one thing i keep noticing consistently is that they have either people or robot voices that direct you to open registers...even at the post office...but at the grocery store there was actually a lady whose job it was to usher us to available check-outs

anyhow so you pay for it in that line...step two...and then you go to this other counter and kinda stand around while they fetch your thing...i dunno where they go...it was weird...i dunno if we have stores like that in the states or not o_O i wonder where they keep all the stuff...they have like everything...one lady walked out with a shelving unit packaged in cardboard and you could get tvs and coolers and all sorts of things...they must have like...16 floors underground or something ?_? i dunno

lunch was hot chocolate and a sausage roll...

sausage here is not like milwaukee sausage

at least not any i've had

and certainly not like a brat lol

i may end up missing brats, even considering how seldom i really ate them

anyhow it was really really good tho

we looked at some stores and stuff and there's this clothing store called Circus that looked pretty hip and some guys were taking down stickers in the window. i don't think i've ever seen anyone doing that...i actually put some up once when i worked at blockbuster but i never took any down...or saw anyone

there was a homeless-looking guy with a dog in a duffle bag...

and apparently homeless people sell magazines? this wasn't really fully explained...

we play LOTS of burnout and i generally win...altho yesterday he beat me quite a bit and today we were pretty even

maybe i'm losing my touch

ohhhh and ok so after we did all that stuff (and probably some other stuff that didn't seem important or i forgot or something...or maybe forgot beCAUSE it wasn't important...) we came back for some cds and then went out again equipped with the adaptor to find steve's knew job in rushden

they have round-abouts in england too

which

for anyone who doesn't know

are big circles that you drive around until you find the road you want to get off on...

the road signs here are interesting

which...i think we started that discussion yesterday

but they are also interesting cuz there are lots of Ms for Motorway likkkkke M1...

AND

so with round-abouts you also get little circle diagrams with little spikes or extroverted spokes or whatever with place names and you're always going around and around

then what...oh tony blair was on today...they were arguing about something or other...on tv

i don't really know much about it >_<

but we sure don't like that poll tax *grumble grumble*

(that was before we left tho i think...)

so part of this burnout game is when you have to crash your car and wreak so many hundreds of thousands of dollars of havoc...

and we also watched donnie darko which was a pretty sweet movie

(i finally saw it :D)

uhm oh but i didn't know drew barrymore was in it o_O

OH I KNOW WHAT ELSE HAPPENED TODAY

we ruled out roller-blading...

and apparently we can't play basketball either ;_;

but i met some of the people steve used to work with before he got his new job which he starts on monday...they seemed nice

i think in some ways paris will be easier tho than england

because here you can't say, "sorry, i speak english" because we ALL speak english...

altho they might try to tell you that we speak some crazy english ne

but so i had a bit of difficulty involving mountains and hats

oh and the guy there made fun of my postvocalic R

steve has initiated a sub-paragraph for "northamptonshire slang"

noggie (altho...no one has ever really spelled it before to the best of our knowledge so this is our guess) - n - the crust on the end of the bread...so like...the piece...that is all crust...

altho it's not going to be a paragraph...i think he's going for a serial column...

o_O

so yeah mountains and hats...

but yeah...it's just hard when you can't understand people speaking english...cuz really english is nothing like your stage british

you know for doing not all that much today i'm writing an awful lot...

dinner was an egg sandwich and for dessert maltesers which are like whoppers only better (and i don't mean the burger king ones...........x_x)

anyhow...did i already say tomorrow is lincoln? i was going to...if i didn't...then tomorrow is lincoln where there is a nice castle...we may go to some other surprise destinations to be revealed dramatically here in the blog upon our return

until then

ATHLETE!!! :D ^_^ :D ^_^ :D rar!

ooook so i did get to go to the concert; wasn't feeling so miserable as allllll that skipping business (luckily...it was a close call) how amazing...how supah :D how ridiculously awesome!!!!!! XD it was really funny cuz they thought we were doing such a great job singing that they let the crowd take over for a bit and actually it was funny cuz just about everyone blew it o_O i, however, did have the right words and was proud to at that moment...they loved everyone just the same :D their new stuff is awesome too...i'm really pumped for the new cd o_o http://athlete.mu

so what else i also got a sweeeeeet t-shirt that is uber cute and BLUE (of course) with the spray logo on it which is supah groovy XD

also when i bought the t-shirt was the first time i really appreciated the "cheers" that follows transactions probably more often than a "thanks" (altho to be fair it's the same thing)

other interesting ukisms:

bangers and mash (sausage and mashed potatoes)

chips are i think sometimes chips but usually fries (which are sometimes called them fries, esp when curly); if you really want chips you should shop for crisps

ok here's something SUPER interesting: northampton on road signs is first reduced to n'hampton (nampton lol) and then to n'pton (nipton XD)

birmingham becomes b'ham (BAM!!!)

and wolverhampton (where the concert was) becomes w'hampton (WHAMpton)

man if you put the whams and the bams with the bangers and mash you could get a black eye o_o

also i learned the difference between british and english today which had always been a minor source of confusion for me (because honestly it doesnt' really come up all that much in wisconsin)...i guess i was confused because english people had a british accent...soooo ok the island is Great Britain which includes all the stuff on it the uk also includes northern ireland (ireland right?) so anyone on the island is basically british but they've all got they're subnationalities and they like those...so i guess it's kind of like saying that anyone in the americas is american including the mexicans and the candadians and everyone TECHNICALLY true...but not really (and admittedly it is extra complicated cuz american is ACTUALLY the usa's nationality marker...but the point is still made)

OH i also learned that in england what make a city different from a town is that a city has a cathedrale...so you could have a HUGE HUGE HUGE "city" but if it doesn't have a cathedrale it's still a town...but of course you can also have really tiny cities who do have them...

yay didn't we learn a lot

what else happened...the apt inspector came today and a man about the oven

annnnnnnnnd i dunno

time for bed soon lol

disruption of plan a

well unless something really thrilling happens i won't be in shape for Athlete tomorrow which is such a complete bummer ;_; hopefully the morning will at least mark the beginning of my return to better health. morale is decent i suppose considering it all but it's not like i've been doing much...

sadly enough my thermometer broke just as i need it so i'm kinda hung out to dry for the numbers. thinking about grabbing some tylenol and teetering back to the couch. technically i should also eat something...

yeah this isn't very exciting...hopefully castles and concerts to follow but we'll have to see; it's either that or the doctor's office >_<

on the bright side steve didn't die from the pasta last night :D

...

yay! ^_^

*cough*

spoiled

yeah cuz i've been thinking about how great it is to have a computer right here whenever i feel like checking my e-mail or blogging or whatever. pretty handy :D

so i do believe i promised the jerry spring opera report...i can't say i didn't expect the swearing :D it was made fairly clear that it would be horrible...it's a huge debate over here. they almost weren't allowed to broadcast it...it has some disturbing religious imagery and things...the second act is basically jerry sent to hell to do a show trying to reconcile satan with god...and then all the religious figures are sort of transformations of characters from the first act which was sort of your typical springer fare. terribly offensive to just about everybody on the surface level but i think steve and i agreed it had a sort of redeeming message :D jerry starts talking about ying and yang nothing is wrong and nothing is right that sort of thing...everything alive is holy or something...anyhow the music and talent were fantastic ^_^ ah ha...half a second of research has revealed that it'll hit broadway in october...should be interesting :D lol

so that was last night...thursday there's a show about the big debate...which we'll hopefully remember to watch @_@

today i meant to wake up earlier than the past two days but it didn't really happen, which is probably just as well cuz i'm sick >_< no big surprise there...i wasn't exactly expecting a miraculous recovery (altho that would've been nice...) so today was video games and movies (Returner and Matrix Reloaded) pasta for dinner which was super good we got this crazy tasty sauce with big chunks of tomatos in it *_* yay :D altho i think we used all the sauce up : / we'll have to find some more...unfortunately steve is sort of allergic to gluten so we'll see how miserable he is tomorrow...he has this thing about not really caring whether he's miserable or not cuz pasta and bread is apparently worth it but i dunno : /

anyhow i gotta blow my nose so i guess that's it for the moment >_<

hmm...

It's funny how "everything's ok now" can turn into "i'm sick" just overnight. I had a wussy cough last night and tonite I have something somewhat nasty. Not so fun...I just hope I'm better so I'm not sick for the Athlete concert on Tuesday.

The plan for tomorrow is fairly simple and not only as a result of not feeling well. It's a Sunday so nothing to terribly thrilling is going on anyhow. Movies and video games...

I have chicken soup...it must not be a terribly big deal over here cuz I could only find one kind with noodles. I suppose I should eat...heh.

So then what did we actually do today...we fed ducks! :D That was pretty cool...altho the geese are sorta scary cuz they'll try to snatch out of your hand. o_O Then we went downtown for lunch which was pasty-licious (roast chicken! yummoo...) It was a bit colder than yesterday, which probably didn't really help my cough, but I didn't really think I was that sick until we were already there...

As a result we took the bus home...ours was purple and turquoise...very cheerful...and they have buttons to stop. Unfortunately it wasn't double-decker tho...those are sooooo groovy :D

Well I'm gonna go take my temp which Steve thinks is useless lol. He says we're funny people. I dunno tho I think it makes sense ;p so we'll go with it...glad i brought my thermometer ^_^

That must be it so I'll probably be back tomorrow with an update including impressions of the controversial Jerry Springer Opera that is on BBC tonite (including whether we actually make it all the way through lol)

huzzah

Well my location won't be exactly correct for another two weeks cuz I'm in Northampton which is super cool. Got in last night after a long day airport hopping. (The flight to Paris was kinda boring...I was seated by myself...they showed some movies that I didn't watch but I read the book Mom bought me [The Book of Flying, appropriately enough], the food was ok...esp dessert lol...the one to england was short and i was pretty tired...we had to circle a bit over london which is very nice to fly into...it was night...lots and lots of lights...all the highways are lighted...!!! like with lights every few yards...it's crazy...you can see them all snaking everywhere...) Spent most of the ride to my friend's house trying not to cry out of extreme guilt but everything's ok now.

Today I woke up late cuz we stayed up watching Ghost World until almost 3 am. Eggs and toast for breakfast and smoothie!!! It's so great; they're everywhere. I'm really glad lol cuz I would've missed them a ton if they weren't. In fact I'm having some yummy purply one now...I had a really cute "innocent" one for a snack...mango and passion fruit!!! a cute smiley with a funny halo was on the bottle ^_^

Anyhow after breakfast we walked into town and that was really nice. Down a bunch of streets, past some car dealerships, and of course, they all drive on the "wrong" side of the road, which means I have to remember to go to the right side of the car to be passenger which isn't the "right" side heh...then past some nice houses...it was soooooo warm out today!!! over 60 i think...but quite windy as well...then there's a duck pond and you can ACTUALLY feed the ducks :D that might be a job for tomorrow

there were lots of funky shops downtown and an open air market in a big square and many video game stores lol lots of pizza places (we picked one to deliver dinner...TASTY!!! and i got smoked sausage which is realllly good on pizza...not like italian at all) and fish 'n chips are everywhere and also chinese take-out and tandoori too...

we also went to the shoe museum which isn't really alllll shoes it's also about northampton which apparently has lots of history but most of it is torn down....there WERE some fairly groovy shoes there :D like huge platforms and tiny chinese shoes cuz it used to be in to like...stunt the growth of your feet so they stay ridiculously small...

annnnnd so we watched Shaun of the Dead today :D (FINALLY i saw it...yay yay yay) it was pretty good altho kinda gory ;p

lala we play video games whenever nothing else is going on which is awesome cuz he has TONS AND TONS AND TONS

i should count...

the cube: 32

the box: at least 51

plenty of computer stuff too

and i don't think i've ever seen so many dvds except at blockbuster (WHICH THEY HAVE O_O) isn't that bizarre? they have blockbuster o_O i'm tempted to go see if my card works but i bet it doesn't lol

well let's see i guess that's all for the moment

probably off to play video games or read or something happy like that

hope everybody is having fun and stuff

:D

Not quite time to leave yet...

So I got bored...cuz I have a bunch of time. I guess we're leaving around 12...or something. I should probably make some phone calls...don't feel bad if I didn't call you. Obviously I love you if you're reading my blog ne? :D

It's too bad I don't have anything deep to say. I have this great new hoodie tho; it's like a baby blanket, light blue. It looks like it should smell good.

@_@

Yeah...I think I already said that I don't really have much to say. So that's that!

I guess I should go try to accomplish something...

*has too much time*

Well this is nice...

I kinda wish I was in a better mood...

Anyhow, today I'm flying. Maybe I don't get snowed-in in Chi-town and that would be nice cuz I'm already gonna be there like 3 hours early...

Gotta love that >_<

I still dunno what book to read on the flight. I guess I'm not in the mood for non-fic and I'd--

whups i have to go eat eggs...

cuz mom's cooking :D
